( 30 ) TIME SKIPPING

. . . TIME SKIPPING FAQ
. . . . . If you wish to contact a mod, please do so here.

At the terminus of each game year, all characters within the game (with the exception of those who opt out through provided mechanisms) will go through a time skip forward. This mechanic is meant to help all characters who opt in to the timeskip to experience the game's metaplot over the scope of time intended.

How Long Could It Be?

The length of this time skip will be determined by player poll established two app-cycles before the event itself. One app cycle (two months) before the intended date of the timeskip, we will release two polls to players which will be open for one week each. The first will give the community to decide whether there should or should not be a timeskip. If the majority vote yes, the second poll will give options from 1 year, etc, to 5 years. Whichever vote wins will determine the length of time which passes!

For example, if the timeskip poll resulted in a timeskip duration of 5 years, then on on 01 April 2015, the beginning of the game's second ooc year, all new activity would be occuring between in-game characters as if they been in the drabwurld 5 years + the duration of months they had been in-game before the timeskip, while all new applicants would be joining a cast of other characters which had been established in the drabwurld for years. Mod posts will relay information on changes within the drabwurld during these years weeks in advance, and special posting areas would be made designated for character interaction in these timeskipped years.

Opt-Out Mechanisms

There will be multiple opt-out mechanisms for characters who do not desire to engage!

  • Enchanted Sleep - Your character simply falls into a Sleeping Beauty-esque enchanted sleep for the duration of the timeskip! Those who fall into an enchanted sleep within their respective castles shall be guarded 'round the clock by local guards.

  • Lost Between Fairy Rings - Your character simply vanishes from the world while traveling by fairy ring! On the date of the timeskip's completion, they simply step out of their destination fairy ring, having absolutely no knowledge that their trip was anything but instantaneous.

  • Fae Curse - Want to only miss bits and pieces of the timeskip? Your character could be fae-cursed by accidentally getting on the wrong side of a native fae! Be creative: perhaps your character falls asleep for a month if they sneeze, or when they hear a certain phrase.

  • White Hart's Touch - Perhaps the White Hart finds your character and gives them the gift(or punishment?) of living for a period of the timeskip as a woodland animal. Hard to do too much as a badger!

  • Canon Update - Need to canon update your character? You can do it now! This will function much like the enchanted sleep option.

  • Wildcard - Does your character canonically have the ability to timeskip or enter a type of stasis? They may use it for all or part of the timeskip! Alternatively, we're absolutely open to fairy tale-themed suggestions! Simply post your idea in the comment section below.

How Will This Work, Exactly?

Pending IC developments, and the result of the timeskip poll, the mod team will release an OOC post which will give all players a rough timeline of greater events in the drabwurld which occur during the timeskip: expect that they will not be much, as there will be NO new shardbearers, fairy rings will be de-activated, and it will be a period of relative peace with no major battles.

The mod team will release a timeline code to the game at large (though players are of course free to code their own!) with the intention that a page shall be used on each character's journal for logging their timeline of what happened during said timeskip. Players may use the comments of this page to log out events of the timeskip at their discretion, and these logs MAY be used to meet AC requirements. Depending on the length of timeskip selected, 2 or 3 months will be devoted to logging the events of the timeskip, and while the mod team will open specific logs in which individuals can begin logging the events of these years (which may happen concurrently to present-time events), players are also free and able to make their own properly-dated logs.

There will be no app-cycle for the month which begins the time-skip (April) so that characters already in-game can have enough time to adequately log timeskip events and to settle into their characters as they would be post-timeskip.

WILL THERE BE BOONS?

No boons or monthly events! Though there will still be minor issues rising in the drabwurld which characters can influence in similar style, it's entirely up to them to participate... for no stated reward.

CAN MY CHARACTER GAIN INFLUENCE OVER THE TIME SKIP?

As there's one month set aside for players to actually write out events of the timeskip, the Quest Request will be open with a special form for events taking place in the timeskip, allowing players to have their characters gain influence over the course of the timeskip. For players who believe their characters would realistically accomplish a larger rise in influence, please PM the mod team!

CAN I OPT OUT FOR PART OF THE TIME SKIP BUT NOT ALL?

Absolutely! We will post an OOC opt-out roster which will organize who is time-skipping for how long for all players to see.

Have you considered having two polls? One as a straightforward 'Timeskip or no timeskip' and then, if timeskip wins, a length-of-time poll?

I just want to say I like this suggestion. I have seen times where polls become deadlocked or even go against what the majority wants because of people getting divided up over some detail (in this case, the length of time).

+1ing this since I know if I vote no I'd like to at least have a say wrt the time of the timeskip if the majority say yes and timeskip wins victor of these hunger games.

Also +1! This is basically why I asked in the first place, especially because if the majority wants a timeskip but just doesn't agree on length, there may be a "people who voted no kicked down our sandcastle just because" sort of feeling toward those who voted against having a timeskip at all.

+1!

Just chipping in that this is a good idea to implement for the reasons stated above.

A week for each poll sounds perfect, really!

I think a week should be okay, as long as there's sufficient advance notice beforehand, so that anyone who plans to take a hiatus or something knows that that is the week to vote, so they can make plans around it and such, if they need to.

I think a week for each would work, definitely! Though like Vynd said, with advance notice (like on the monthly calendar or something?) just in case.
