WHAT KIND OF GENRE IS THE GAME?

ED is, first and foremost, a Fantasy Adventure war game. The world is vast, the bestiary is large, and we fully encourage people to ride off into the sunset, become a dark lord, gain minions and have their own storyline on the go. Don't want to get involved with events? You don't have to.

Please be aware that ED is not tailored to cater to sci-fi characters or technologically-based canons. We cannot stress this enough! If your character is AI or cyborg-based (beyond the steampunk-genre!) they will have to be humanized! This is a drastic alteration and cannot be reversed in order to permit such characters to function in-game.

WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH THE MODS/ HOW DO I CONTACT THE MODS?

The quickest way to get a hold of us is by private messaging [personal profile] fairyfoes with your issue in the subject line. Please understand that we work and study full time and sometimes we can be delayed when answering inquiries. On occasion, we will have to discuss a question before answer and that can also take time; ordinarily we will let you know if this is the case. Sometimes we forget! As is the way of only being human.

Our mod situation is different than other games, as you will be aware. At the moment, we are currently operating with several anonymous head mods to help with all facets of the game. Sometimes we mess up, as you'll know. Our anonymous head mods also deal with NPC, event plotting, and influence, among other things. We also have several helper mods who organize our lists and who approve reserves.

Anonymity within the Mod Team is a personal choice; it's convenient for us to keep all correspondence in the one place rather than being contacted individually. Some of our team feel more relaxed operating under anonymity; largely, it's easier for us to separate being a player and being a mod this way also. If you are unsure how to contact a mod, we stress that the easiest way to do so is to private message [personal profile] fairyfoes with clear intentions in the header.

HOW OFTEN ARE APPS/RESERVES OPEN?

To preserve the sanity of the mod staff, apps are on a bi-monthly basis, with as many slots open as would bring the game up to 200 characters.

HOW MANY CHARACTERS CAN I PLAY AT ONCE IN-GAME?

You can play up to three different characters in-game, unless you can prove two successive passed AC rounds with the max of three characters: at that point, you may apply for a fourth the following application round, providing links to the passed AC for three characters in your application.

Please try not to play individuals with a more than reasonable chance of knowing each other within the same canon.

Please consider the time you have available before apping more than one character!

WHAT IS THE AC REQUIREMENT AND HOW OFTEN DOES IT GO UP?

AC is done every other month on the 26th, staggered with apps (except for December when there will be no AC owing to it being the busiest time of the year irl for a majority of players/mods). To pass, twenty network comments will suffice (non-linear or linear as needed) or ten comments in a log. Neither of these includes entry starters. The minimum requirement per AC thread would be five for logs and ten for network threads.

WHAT ARE THE OOC AND IC DATING SYSTEMS?

OOC the ratio is 1:1. IC you may defer to the current UK lunar calendar (characters can realise this adds up to the cycle of 2014 if they check the libraries and keep their own notes). This is for the benefit of characters who require a set routine such as werewolves, waterbenders or wizards. As of November 2015, the current IC year is 150 in the Age of Rifts in the predominant IC calendar.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I HIATUS/DROP?

During hiatus you may put your character on auto-pilot or have them fall into an enchanted sleep in the infirmary of their respective strongholds. They will be rushed back here by fairies/imps via fairy-rings no matter where they are, if they are abroad! Shardless, however, are on their own and must be taken somewhere by PCs. If you drop, your character will vanish into thin air the second they are alone and the servants will begin clearing your former rooms; where your character was last will be their newly exposed and depowered Shard. Boons your character received all vanish from the drabwurld.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON 4TH-WALLING?

Always make sure you first ask the other player involved if your character knows of theirs as a fictional creation. As a general rule, it's a no-no.

HOW OFTEN MAY I CANON UPDATE?

Every four months you can update your character to wherever you wish in their canon. This grace waiting period is to allow any shock factor to wear off from the new information they bring with them and to allow other characters the chance to acclimatise to any changes. While being canon updated, the character will suffer the same effects as when hiatused. That is, a deep and overwhelmingly sudden urge to sleep. This enchanted nap will last seven days! Whatever changes overcome your character will be shown on their physical body while they slumber (height/hair growth, for example). Wounds will not be displayed and instead manifest themselves as expanding scars depending on the injury. Lost body parts will remain intact in the Drabwurld but be surrounded by even nastier scars that act as an echo for the events happening in canon.

NB Unlike hiatusing where Shardbearer characters are hurried to the infirmary of their faction, fairies/imps will not come for them! Canon Updating can happen at any time, anywhere!

MAY I CHANGE MY ALIGNMENT?

Yes, either during a canon update that significantly alters your character's perception or whenever you feel it has become necessary due to in-game developments. The same process as usual will occur for a normal canon update (the 7-day rule, etc): your character will suffer a deep and overwhelmingly sudden urge to sleep whenever, wherever you decide. However, when you change alignment, your character will "fade" from sight into their new bedroom at the opposite stronghold.

IS THERE AN UNDERLYING PLOT?

There is! Though it may not be immediately apparent, and is likely to grow and change around player activity. If you want to, you can completely ignore the underlying plot and live your character's life however you please.

WHAT ARE THE EVENTS LIKE?

Events range from adventure/political/mystery/strategy on a loose basis. For clarification, these are the basic kinds of events a player might see:

01) The monthly event, as discussed in the calendar released at the beginning of each month. All characters may participate in these events.
02) Metaplot events, which involve deep interaction with significant npcs, and reveal or advance the metaplot; for mod sanity, since these are heavily npc'd, player participation in these is usually capped.
03) Player plots and quests, which are simply players orchestrating their own events which involve others, typically involving no or very minimal npcing.
04) Player requested npc scenes or quests, which are usually very short, but give characters enough information to move forward with other quests.

There are widespread events which affect all realms. One month might consist of multiple small events, whereas another might have have two large events the full span of 2-3ish weeks. The leaders might issue proclamations (listed as having been issued on the OOC monthly event post with respective dates and not posted on the IC comm, for the easy reference of players) for groups of characters to ride out and fight a foe or to commit to subterfuge and steal a relic.

Events are not mandatory and you can completely ignore them or only dip into them now and again, if you like.

CAN MY CHARACTER AFFECT THE GAME?

Absolutely. In fact, they affect the game even if they never participate in an event. The conclusion of Monthly Events can change the balance of power in the Drabwurld just as much as player plots, and by participating in metaplot events groups of characters can gain powerful allies for themselves and their faction, and may even change the map itself.
